The Company's net income for the third quarter of 2000 was Baht 1,940 million, which was accounted for a 120% increase from Baht 882 million of the same quarter in 1999. Substantial improvements in the operating result was attributable to several factors as follows: 1. An increase of Baht 3,258 million in the Company's total revenues,or a 50% growth over that of the same quarter in last year, which was due to the followings: - The Company's revenues from services and equipment rental increased from that of the third quarter in 1999 by Baht 2,119 million or a 46% growth. Such increase was mainly caused by an expansion of the Company's subscriber base from 1,142,679 subscribers at the end of the third quarter in 1999 to 1,657,871 subscribers at the end of the third quarte in 2000 or an increase by 45%. - The Company's revenues from sales in the third quarter of 2000 was Baht 2,463 million, growing from Baht 1,671 million of the same quarter in 1999, or an increase by 47%. This increase mainly came from a rise in the number of mobile phones sold from 125,230 units at the end of the third quarter in 1999 to 268,395 units at the end of the third quarter in 2000. The mobile phone sales were generated by Advanced Wireless Marketing Company Limited, the Company's subsidiary. - The Company had net gain on exchange of Baht 367 million in the third quarter of 2000, which was a 146% increase from Baht 149 million of the same quarter in 1999. 2. An increase of Baht 1,745 million in the Company's total expenses, or a 34% rise over that of the same quarter in last year, which was due to the followings: - An increase in cost of services and equipment rental by Baht 982 million from Baht 2,764 million in the third quarter of 1999, due to the growth in the Company's subscriber base - An increase in cost of sales by Baht 492 million from Baht 1,135 million in the third quarter of 1999 - An increase in interest expenses due to an issuance of bonds worth Baht 10,000 million at the beginning of 2000 3. An increase of Baht 551 million in the Company's income tax to Baht 1,007 million in the third quarter of 2000, which was due to the growth in the Company's income before tax of Baht 1,514 million.
